Franklin Park Silver Spanner List
Posted On: Mar 12, 2010 (09:42:35)

 Brothers and Sisters,

Franklin Park Firefighters Local #1526 is looking for the assistance of our fellow Union members in the formation of a Silver Spanner eligibility list of professional and qualified Paramedics to fill in our roster on a temporary basis.

Local #1526 has recently ratified our current Bargaining Agreement with the Village of Franklin Park. After May 1, 2010, the Village has agreed to completely terminate their contract with Paramedic Services of Illinois and staff our ambulances with professional Firefighter/Paramedics. This transition will be accomplished by utilizing our existing number of Firefighter/Paramedics currently on our roster, sending several of our members to paramedic school and getting them certified, and the Village changing its hiring standards to require all future applicants to be certified paramedics.

In an effort to make this transition as smooth as possible and to provide the highest quality of care to our residents, Local #1526, under the direction of our attorney J. Dale Berry, has negotiated a plan to create a Silver Spanner  list. The creation of this list will be used to provide certified sworn personnel to fill in some of these vacancies on a temporary basis until we achieve the required number of certified personnel it will take to staff our ambulances on our own.

It is our conviction that the public deserves to be served by those professionals who have dedicated themselves to the high level of service that Professional Union Firefighter/Paramedics have set as their standard.  To prevent anything other than the best from being brought into our department, we are asking for your assistance.

To apply, you must be a Certified EMT-P with a minimum of 18 months experience as a certified paramedic.  Franklin Park works in Loyola Hospital's EMS system and is part of EMS Region VIII.  There will be no minimum fire certification requirements due to the fact that all Silver Spanneremployees will function strictly as EMS providers on an ambulance with no fire suppression responsibilities.

Following the application process with Local#1526 and the Village, eligible applicants will be scheduled to fill the vacant slots as dictated by the agreement between the Union and the Village of Franklin Park.  Pay will be $15.00 an hour and the application along with shift scheduling details will follow.

This action has been taken with the full knowledge, cooperation and approval of our District Vice President, Danny Fortuna and AFFI President Pat Devaney. Franklin Park Local #1526 is respectfully requesting assistance from our brothers and sisters and union members shall not be held in violation of local union by-laws.

We thank you in advance for your assistance, your time, and your dedication in helping to maintain our professional standards.  Please contact us at anytime with questions and for hiring information.

Sincerely,

Luke Palermo,  Local #1526 President     (224) 629-7129

Danny Fortuna, AFFI District One Vice President  (773) 899-0165
